Draft Media Bill

The Media Bill will reform decades-old laws to turbocharge the growth potential of our world-leading public service broadcasters (PSBs), which develop talent and skills, drive growth in the creative industries across the UK and deliver distinctive, diverse British content. The Bill will mean audiences can more easily access and enjoy high quality, British originated content and allow that content to project British values globally.

The Bill will deliver on a number of legislative commitments made in the government’s recent broadcasting white paper, Up Next; the Government’s vision for the broadcasting sector.

Media Bill – impact assessment update

The government has now published the impact assessments for the draft Media Bill as published on 29 March 2023. As is usual practice, an updated set will be submitted to the Regulatory Policy Committee for independent scrutiny, and published at Bill Introduction.

A full impact assessment for the connected audio devices clauses, Part 6 of the Bill, will be published at Bill Introduction. Research published by Radiocentre in March 2023 forms the evidence base for draft measures on connected audio devices as published.
