Tariff-rate quotas on steel goods were imposed by the EU on behalf of the UK and the other member states. The Secretary of State for Business and Trade transitioned some of the tariff-rate quotas to continue applying in the UK after the transition period.
Following a transition review, the tariff rate quotas were extended. A review of developing country exemptions resulted in changes to exemptions for certain developing countries.
After an extension review the Secretary of State for Business and Trade announced on 26 June 2024 to extend the tariff rate quotas on all 15 product categories to 30 June 2026. The Secretary of State for Business and Trade also decided to extend the application of the suspension for Ukraine to 30 June 2026.
