Street works qualifications regulations in England: proposed amendments
Proposed changes to the street works qualifications regulations in England to make them less prescriptive, simpler, clearer and easier to understand.
The Department for Transport is seeking views on proposed changes to street works qualifications regulations in England.
Street works are carried out by the 4 main utility groups:
- water
- gas
- electric
- telecoms
Street works undertakers have certain obligations to ensure operatives and supervisors are suitably qualified. The regulations under consideration establish procedures to become qualified, register and re-register certificates and they set out the various prescribed qualifications.
The regulations have given rise to a number of issues over the years. These proposals are intended to address these and to rationalise street works training and accreditation processes in England.
