Batteries Directive: implementation and draft regulations

We are seeking views on our approach to implementing the 2013 Amended Batteries Directive, specifically our draft 2015 regulations and the draft impact assessment.

The 2013/56/EU Amended Batteries Directive amends the original 2006 Batteries Directive by:

  • removing certain exemptions to the prohibitions in the directive on the placing on the market of batteries containing mercury or cadmium
  • amending the provisions relating to the removability of a waste battery from an appliance by an independent qualified professional

We want to know if our draft amended regulations are accurate and do not exceed the Amended Batteries Directive’s requirements.

We also want to know whether we have accurately assessed the costs to consumers and business and the time required for retailers and wholesale managers to familiarise themselves with the amending regulations.
