The UK government has committed to exploring legislative and non-legislative options for ending ‘conversion therapy’ (attempts to change, modify or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity).
The aim of this report is to improve understanding of the practice, experience and effect of conversion therapies. It seeks to address the following 4 questions:
- What forms does conversion therapy take?
- Who experiences conversion therapy and why?
- What are the outcomes of conversion therapy?
- What measures have been taken to end conversion therapy around the world?
The report includes the results of a rapid evidence assessment of studies from around the world, as well as a qualitative study with 30 people who had undergone conversion therapy in the UK.
