The UK government has committed to exploring legislative and non-legislative options for ending ‘conversion therapy’ (attempts to change, modify or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity).

The aim of this report is to improve understanding of the practice, experience and effect of conversion therapies. It seeks to address the following 4 questions:

  1. What forms does conversion therapy take?
  2. Who experiences conversion therapy and why?
  3. What are the outcomes of conversion therapy?
  4. What measures have been taken to end conversion therapy around the world?

The report includes the results of a rapid evidence assessment of studies from around the world, as well as a qualitative study with 30 people who had undergone conversion therapy in the UK.
