The converted Drax power station provides 12% of the UK’s renewable power from the burning of wood pellets. This source of power is reliable and flexible and supports more intermittent renewables, such as wind and solar. However, we note that concerns have been raised about its sustainability and short-term climate impact of burning wood pellets. We are currently examining these concerns as part of a separate inquiry.
