The Department for Education is establishing International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS), a new route for overseas-trained teachers to gain qualified teacher status in England without completing traditional initial teacher training. The scheme includes experience-based pathways for early years practitioners and a digital application service launched in February 2023, with ongoing evaluation of uptake and effectiveness.
