Electricity Capacity Market Reform

The UK government is reforming the Electricity Capacity Market to integrate low-carbon technologies, enhance delivery assurance, and make locational changes to Capacity Market Units ahead of Prequalification 2026. Led by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (formerly BEIS), this active reform includes proposals on hydrogen-to-power, interconnectors, and clean flexibility, with regulatory changes being implemented through the Electricity Capacity (Amendment) Regulations 2025.
