The Environment Agency is reforming its charging and regulatory framework for waste management, industrial permits, and radioactive substances at non-nuclear sites. The Agency regulates landfill sites, mining, energy-from-waste facilities, packaging, and international waste shipments, issuing permits and conducting inspections across 6,618 permitted waste sites. Current consultations address charges for radioactive substances regulation and simpler recycling frameworks, with ongoing feedback on waste exemptions and operational complaints.
