UK ETS Maritime Sector Expansion

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is expanding the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) to cover maritime shipping activities. The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) (Extension to Maritime Activities) Order 2026 will bring maritime fuel consumption into the carbon pricing mechanism, affecting ferry services and shipping costs.
