Power BECCS Business Model

The government is establishing a revenue support framework for Power Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (Power BECCS) as part of its greenhouse gas removal (GGR) strategy to meet net-zero targets. DESNZ is developing business model regulations and has negotiated a transitional support agreement with Drax running from 2027 to 2031, subject to an independent review of GGR technologies and value-for-money scrutiny.

We urge the Government to ensure that there is a robust contingency plan in place if BECCS proves unviable, either in terms of its sustainability or efficiency.
